Pregnancy can be identified ultrasound, using the transvaginal probe, approximately 5 weeks after the last menstruation for a woman with a regular menstrual cycle.
The first image to be seen is the gestational sac. Around 6 weeks after the last menstruation can be seen the vitelline vesicle and later the embryo with cardiac activity.
With the transabdominal ultrasound the pregnancy can be seen later, around 7 weeks of pregnancy.
