The hunting of birds in the Danube Delta will be prohibited, the sanitary-veterinary control at the border has been strengthened, and the cars entering the country are disinfected. The main risk areas are Constanta, Calarasi, Ialomita, Tulcea, Galati, Vrancea and Vaslui counties.
Bird hunting in the Danube Delta could be banned, to prevent outbreaks of avian influenza, said Gabriel Predoi, director general of the National Authority for Veterinary and Food Safety (ANSVSA), yesterday, in a press conference . According to him, seven counties in the Danube Delta area (Constanta, Calarasi, Ialomita, Tulcea, Galati, Vrancea and Vaslui) represent risk areas for the occurrence of bird flu. "It is almost certain that hunting will be banned. The risk of transmission of the virus is very high during this period, because within a week or two the migration period of the birds from the Urals mountains begins," Predoi added. Inspectors of the Environmental Guard of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Administration (ARBDD) yesterday identified two dead swans on Golovita Lake.
"At this moment we cannot say exactly the cause of the death of the two birds. It is possible, however, that they were detained by the fishing tools of the locals and they were thrown into the water or it is possible that their death was caused by other factors" , said Costel Ifrim, the Chief Commissioner of the Environmental Guard of the ARBDD. According to the same source, the two birds were found by the locals in Ceamurlia de Jos, according to the specialists and they were dead for about 15 days. For his part, Marian Avram, director of the Tulcea branch of the Sanitary-Veterinary and Food Safety Division (DSVSA), said that the analysis of the two birds was not caused by bird flu.
The danger comes from the East
The main migratory birds that can carry the virus are those that come from Russia and Kazakhstan, and among the target species are chickpeas, wildflowers and wildflowers, said Predoi. Among the measures taken by ANSVSA to keep the situation under control are, in a first phase, the prohibition of imports of meat and products derived from Russia and Kazakhstan, where outbreaks of avian influenza have been detected. Also, veterinary control at all border points has been strengthened, with the introduction of meat and meat products, but also of pets through centers where control cannot be achieved. At the same time, all vehicles and equipment entering the country are disinfected, said Predoi.
In the event of an outbreak of influenza, the population must immediately notify the local veterinarian, the respective birds are slaughtered and the area is disinfected. At the same time, within a radius of 5-10 km located around the outbreak, total restrictions are established, including the slaughter of all birds and the ban on leaving the area by humans and animals.
So far, no such case has been discovered after conducting about 10,000 tests, with daily bird harvesting being made, ANSVSA representative said.
