No matter how hard you try to keep your baby's skin clean and healthy, in the first year of your baby's life, you will experience some common skin conditions. These are often triggered by the products and substances with which the skin comes in contact or by the use of unsafe or toxic cosmetic products:

  • diaper irritation;
  • atopic or seborrheic dermatitis;
  • baby acne;
  • dry skin;
  • heat irritation;
  • baby mold (scalp shells) etc.

These conditions are not considered to be dangerous to health, but they require proper care. However, if you take care to form a correct daily or weekly ritual to care for the baby's skin, depending on the age and sensitivities, you will substantially reduce the risk of their appearance.

The correct skin care ritual includes:

  • bath;
  • choosing and cleaning clothes;
  • creams and cosmetics for cleaning and care;
  • cleaning and protecting the area of the ass - most prone to irritations and infections.

Baby bathing

Baby bathing plays an important role in the skin care ritual. If the bath is not properly designed and the child is exposed to too much water and unsafe cosmetic cleaning products, the skin will suffer and become vulnerable to infections.

Frequent exposure to water and cleaning products (even baby ones) tends to clean the essential oils that cover and protect the baby's skin. This is why, when bathing your baby, it is important to consider a few things:

  • does not bathe more than 3 times a week, up to the age of 1 year (the rest of the time, cleanses the skin and insists with water only in the delicate areas - the butt, the groin area, the armpits, the neck, etc.);
  • soak it in warm water (not hot) and avoid keeping it too much in the tub;
  • Do not use cosmetic cleansing products in the first few months (when the immune system is experiencing a marked development), then only opt for ranges of products specially created for sensitive skin at this age - without perfumes, parabens and other toxic compounds.

Care of the groin area and the butt

The skin in the groin area and the buttock needs special care, because it is prone to diaper irritation, the most common skin condition at this age. Rubbing the diaper on the skin, as well as moisture from the urine and feces causes redness and painful irritation, uncomfortable for babies.

In order to prevent the occurrence of diaper irritation, it is important:

  • to choose the right size of diapers to prevent friction;
  • check them and change them frequently, after each urination or chair;
  • to wash and clean the groin area and the bottom with water;
  • put the diaper on the perfectly dry skin and given with protective ointments or starch powder (do not use talcum powder).

Use Sudocrem every time you change your baby's diaper. This creamy paste spreads easily, the skin is cool and soothing during evaporation of the water content of the cream and can accelerate the endothelialization process, softening and moisturizing the skin.

Cosmetics for baby's skin care

The skin of the baby should be moisturized and nourished after each bath with care products specially designed for sensitive and delicate skin from this age. When buying a lotion or body lotion for babies, it is important to consider the following criteria:

  • to have neutral ph;
  • not to contain alcohol;
  • not to contain toxic substances (parabens, phthalates, etc.);
  • not to contain perfume etc.

Carefully read the label of each cosmetic cleaning or skin care product and make sure it is appropriate to the type of skin the baby has. Do not forget the sun protection lotions, which must be applied at any time of the year, starting with the age of 6 months.

Choosing and cleaning clothes

And clothes can have a major impact on the health of the baby's skin. It is important that when you buy baby clothes, keep in mind a few essentials:

  • buy clothes made of organic or natural materials (synthetic fabrics irritate the skin and predispose it to infections);
  • always wash clothes before first wearing;
  • wash clothes with hypoallergenic detergent, without perfume and toxic substances, which can affect the sensitive skin of the baby.
